Common questions
How do I add a recipe from a website?
In your browser, tap the Share button and choose Recipe Diary. The app reads the page and pulls in the title, ingredients, and steps so you can review and save. You can edit any field before it’s stored.
Where are my recipes stored?
Everything lives on your device, so your library is private and works with no internet connection. Keep your iPhone backed up (via iCloud Backup or your computer) so a restore brings your recipes, plans, and lists with it.
Can I change how the app looks?
Yes - open the appearance settings to switch themes, including a dark mode and several colour options. Your choice is remembered next time you open the app.
How do I edit my shopping list?
You can add items individually or add a whole recipe or plan. The app will remember which category you place an item in and do it for you next time. Tick an item to mark it bought, or remove it with the ‘x’.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Because your data is kept on the device, you can browse recipes, plan meals, and shop without a signal. The only feature that needs a connection is importing a recipe from a web link.
How do I delete a recipe or clear my data?
Open any recipe and choose delete to remove it. To clear everything, deleting the app removes all of its on-device data. If you’d like a hand, email us and we’ll talk you through it.
Troubleshooting
If something isn’t working
A recipe link didn’t import correctly
Some sites lay out their pages in ways that are hard to read automatically. You can fix any field by hand before saving - and if a particular site fails often, send us the link so we can improve the importer.
Recipe Diary isn’t in my browser’s share menu
The first time you import from a website, scroll to the end of the share row, tap More, and switch Recipe Diary on. Opening the app once after installing also helps it register - after that it stays in your share sheet.
A recipe photo didn’t import correctly
When you import from a photo, Recipe Diary reads the text using your device’s built-in text recognition, so results vary with the photo and with how new your device is - newer models tend to read text more accurately. For the best results use a clear, well-lit photo with the text flat and in focus, then fix any field by hand before saving.
